Jonathan Riggall has been panting his whole life, yet it took many years of experimenting to find an artistic language that allowed him to express what he wanted to.
The artist intends to create work that adds a soft warmth and gentle sense of movement to a room. His works are intentionally restrained, creating a space for quiet reflection. Over time, the artist discovered that total freedom is hindering to him, so he began to slowly restrict his work with a set of rules that emerged organically throughout the process. Only when he had finally removed all curves, shade, and anything figurative, did he gain a sense of freedom.
Jonathan often takes inspiration from nature. His work can be seen as a long and slow process of introversion, during which the paintings become ever more themselves. His artistic career has not seen any drastic stylistic changes but rather a slow evolution toward a single form of expression.
The artist currently lives and works in Barcelona, Spain.
