Sara Hoque

  • British, 1991

  • Bio

Sara Hoque was born in North Yorkshire to a Norwegian mother and British/Bengali Father. As a child, she had a nomadic, multicultural upbringing which is reflected today in her work and habitat. During her childhood, Hoque was inspired by the rural areas of Wales and Norway, and nature became the main subject of her drawings. The artist has traveled to many unusual and beautiful places where she felt in awe of the vastness of the forests and seas.

Since graduating, the artist has been living in London and now resides on a 40ft narrow boat cruising the waterways.

Hoque studied Fine Art at Kingston University in London. During her studies, she was introduced to landscape paintings by old masters who explored the ’sublime’, a quality of greatness beyond comprehension, which gave context to her personal transcendental experiences in nature. Throughout her research into art history and its movements, the artist became fascinated by the surrealists and their linking of art to dreams and the subconscious. Today, her work has evolved to include themes of altered states of consciousness and delve deeper into transcendental experiences.

The artist currently lives and works in London.
