Escaping From The Painting

For some artists painting is an escape, and a positive one. "Escapism" can have a negative connotation, but for many it is instead a meditative practice that lasts beyond the time spent with a brush in the hand. For the famous Spanish painter Pere Borrell del Caso (1835 - 1910), the beautiful trompe l'oeil Escaping Criticism was a shortcut to success, while in Julita Malinowska's Escaping From The Painting 10-pieces series her characters pass by quietly but steadily, and the painting meant to narrate them just records their passage. Every painting is a passing instant, a carefree detail in the unlimited space of water and sky, both infinity and freedom.
