BAROQUE INFLUENCER (After Velázquez), 2021
23 ½ × 23 ½ in
In this piece after Velázquez, Petra von Kazinyan addresses the principles of power, influence and personality cults then and now. History is made by people, and those in power have always been contemplating the best way to achieve the greatest influence over the others. Each epoch has formulated its own answers to this question and now, in a globalized, technology-based world, the essence of this power has begun to change again. But where do we go from here? The original painting dates from 2019 and is part of Petra von Kazinyan’s series SEE STORIES, which is the sequel to her ALTER IDEM cycle from 2014 that deals with concepts of identity in the digital era. This follow-up tackles the impact social media has on today’s society; how it impacts human relationships in real life.
