Petra von Kazinyan
Petra von Kazinyan's work reflects our present in many ways: the rapid change in her artistry, the instability and fragility of forms and the transformation of space through experience.
In 2002, the German-born artist and philosophy graduate moved to Vienna where she still lives and works. After her studies at the Goethe-University in Frankfurt/M. and some work experience in the Viennese theatre scene, her paintings have been shown in numerous exhibitions and art fairs in Austria and abroad. Recent exhibitions include a solo show in the course of the Venice Biennale 2019, Woman Art Award 2017 in Paris, Art Austria 2016 and Art Beijing 2012.
Turning from figuration to abstraction, she uses painting as a medium of natural expression through which endlessly "dealing with reality", wondering about the condition of the human being in the present world. Different levels of perception alternate in scenery between dream and reality, past and future. The main focus of her research is on the concept of identity in a globalized digital world. In a mise en scène of our own ego, her abstract paintings seem to have no beginning and no end, are cut off by or break out of the edges of the canvas. The result is an endless, weightless space, semipermeable and enigmatic.
