“I use figuration as a starting point. Instead of depicting the subject as an individual who has a clear identity, I use it as an excuse, as a discipline and as a bait for abstract possibilities. I don’t know personally the subject and this allows me to create something as universal as possible. I’m just at the beginning of this process.”
Born in Italy, in 1988 Matteo Venturi began his career in the VFX industry, primarily working on digital organic modelling. He discovered painting and the possibilities of this medium after the retrospective exhibition of Francis Bacon in Palazzo Strozzi, Florence in 2013.
